The name of the sake our team is going to craft in Asahi Shuzo’s New York sakagura has been decided.
This sake shall be branded as “Dassai Blue”.
The “Dassai Blue” brand concept comes from a Japanese proverb; literally translated to “Although blue dye comes from the indigo plant, it is bluer than indigo”.
A similar idea is nested in the famous proverb “the scholar may waur the master”.
By branding “Dassai Blue” its American counterpart, Dassai expects the staff in New York to craft a sake that would be greater than the original.
We plan on using both rice from the US and japanese Yamada-Nishiki rice.
By producing on-site, “Dassai Blue” is meant to be several kinds of sake with different price ranges affordable to all of our faithful customers.
Details on the final products are yet to be determined, although we are undergoing trials and errors so as to be able to deliver to be experience to our American customers.
Update: The construction work to build the sakagura itself has completely stopped due to the COVID-19 but is expected to be complete by Spring 2022 if the situation improves.
